Mini Album to go with the Vintage Card

Here is the toilet paper mini album I made to go with my friend's card.  This is my first video so it's a little (ok - a lot) off in so many ways.  The one thing I looooove about making things for scrappy friends is that they ALWAYS appreciate the effort and you don't have to drive yourself nuts to make it perfect.  This was so much fun to make, and even though its pretty small, it took me almost a week to complete.  I can't wait until I can say I made a mini in a couple of hours.  I think I'm waaay to analytical for that.  LOL

Supplies:
Tim Holtz Lost and Found Paper, distress inks and gears
Iamroses flowers
Recollections flowers
Mon Ami Gabby trims

60th Birthday Card

This a card I made for one of my best friends. We met when I was but a wee lad in college. She has been a great friend and mentor.

Inside of the card

I used WRMK rub-ons and flocking for the top sentiment and a rubber stamp for the bottom

Purse Card

So, I'm catching up on my posts. A lot of these cards were made a while ago but I never got a chance to post. This purse card was cut by hand. The closure has a faux skin technique by using embossing powder and then dragging my bone folder through it to create an animal skin look before heat drying it. The handle is a piece of boa. The PP actually has a black velvet flocking so the card had a lot of texture just like a real purse.

Tim Holtz Vintage card

I made this card for a scrappy teacher-turned-friend who not only shares my love for cards but also the same birthday as me. She is a totally vintage girl, so I made this "Jeannette" style. It was so hard not to reach for bling or glitter but I love the way it turned out. I used the Tattered Florals die for the flowers, distriss inks, glimmer mist, masks, and UTEE on the crown. The challenge was to use techniques and products I don't normally use. The back of this card was a hot inky mess by the time I finished but I think she can appreciate the effort. Lol.

Birthday Card

So, this is my first sorta scene card.  I love the cards created by Stephanie at LovetoCreateCards and promised myself I was going to try a scene card.  Here's my take on one of the cards I won in her giveaway.  I used glossy accents on the dress and boots to give them a patent leather look.  Most of the cards I make for people are personalized and theme based, hence the #13 on the car and NY vibe card.  I'm always looking for new and creative ways to include names, ages and themes to cards, so if you know of any, please feel free to share.

Have a blessed day!

First Things First - Thank you Becky

I want to send a big THANK YOU to Becky at A Diamond in the Rough for her encouraging comments.  Her work is beautiful, inspirational and soothing to my soul, so if you've made it this far, please check her out.  A little comment goes a long way especially for us newbies who are so inspired by all of the amazing talent we see in cyber space.  I have been working around the clock on three big back to back projects and I haven't had a chance to play around with some of my own ideas but her comment gave me just the little fuel I needed to keep plugging along with grumbling.  I pray I get an opportunity to pay it forward.

Create a Critter

This is an Easter Card I made for a friend. I used Create a Critter for the bunny, DCWV Blossoms and Butterflies for the background, and some little Prima flowers on the basket. I wrapped ribbon around the cut the top of the basket for a little zing. Thanks for looking.

Rock Princess

I used the Rock Princess cartridge for this card. The background paper and her mini skirt are from DCWV Butterflies and Blossoms. I also embossed the blue paper with the CB Spots and Dots Folder.  The "V" charm is from Making Memories.  I used a little Stickles for her eyeshadow and bracelets, along with a little bling. This is my first attempt at doodling and I'm still learning how and where to add accents to make your card pop. I like the way it turned out.  What do you think?  I wish I had the Laffy Taffy faces by Peachy Keen but there are on their way!!!! I can wait to make another Rock Princess card with those stamps.

Thank You

My mom is planning to move and a lot of the members of her church have been soooo helpful with packing and putting things into storage for her.  She asked me to make a thank you card for one of the ladies who had really given her a lot of help.  The paper and butterfly are from the K&Co Value Stack.  It comes complete with everything including pop dots.  I put a litte Tim Holtz Crackle Accents on the butterfly, along with some Stickles around the edge of the wings and on the body.  I also outlined the cream flowers with Crackle Accents along with some Prima ribbon and a few pieces of bling.  The stamp is by Anna Griffin.

A Starfish flower?

I've had the Cuttlebug Build-A-Flower die for a long time.  I picked up a pretty big haul of dies about a year ago when Big Lots had the folders and dies on sale.  I had been wanting to try this for a while and finally got a chance when my mom asked me to make a card for my Godmother's birthday.  I was going for a "clean lines" card with a simple flower in the middle but the original design looked more like a starfish with a huge rhinestone in the midde.  LOL.  So I reworked it using some Bazzill wings, Recollection flowers and Prima petals.  It's a lot busier than I was going for but when I heard that my Godmother loved the card so much, that she pulled out her card from last year to display with this one, I liked it a lot more since the whole point was to make something she would enjoy.  Her card from last year was probably one of the first cards I ever made.

MY MVP

Here is a card I made for a friend whose husband loves soccer.  I stamped the letter and cut them out using some alphabet stamps by KI Memories (is that right?).  The scoreboard is from a sports themed Colorbok paper pad and I colored in the score with gel pens.  The soccer player is on an another action wobble.  I love the inside, which reads "I still love kickin' it with you".

Just In Time for Easter

This is a card that I made for a friend. It was originally a birthday card but I think that it would also be perfect as an Easter card.

My First Cricut Gypsy Card

I know it's pretty simple, but I am so excited that I finally got this right.  My cut kept being off center when I tried to fold it.  I learned that you need to 1) flip one of your images when your welding and 2) make sure that your images both line up in the same spot on the "x" or "y" axis (depending on which way you have your image turned).  When I made those two adjustments everything worked out just fine.  I used Sports Mania for the football and inked with Tim Holtz Vinage Photo.  I used the Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic folder to emboss and give some texture.  I've seen tons of welded football cards online but this one is beautiful - - because it's mine.  Awwww.  This card is actually pretty big.  I cut it at 6.5" on the shadow feature so that I got a small border on the front of the card. It fits in a 5.5 x 8.5 envelope.

I Won - I Won

So I was just about to upload a couple of pictures of the cards I finished last night when I checked my blog favs and found I won 9 cards made by LovetoCreateCards.  I think her work is amazing and I very excited that I'll get to see it up close and personal.  How often have you looked at something online and wished you could see the actual item.  Check out her site.  You're sure to see something you luv!!!

You are Fabulous

Here's a card and matching purse envelope.  I used theWedding cartridge and really nice paper for the shoe and purse.  The shoe is made from a flocked velvet paper and the inside of the shoe is a pearl shimmer swirl.  Umm, it was to die for.  I backed the sentiment with some Anna Griffin acetate and the sentiment is stamped with a combo of a PTI stamp and Studio G stamp.  Go figure.  I used Sworovski crystals around the card sentiment, inside of the shoe and on the envelope.  I love to personalize my cards in some way so that the person knows that each card is just for them.  I used to try to use the first name but sometimes there isn't enough room or it just doesn't look good.  Still finding new and exciting ways.  Please leave a comment if you have any more ideas.  TFL.  Have a great day.

A little something different - A Diaper Cake

So one of my boss' had a baby and we gave her a Surprise Baby Shower before she left.  I work with a very talented and nice group of collegues and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.  The theme was baby jungle animals.  This is my first diaper cake.  It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  There are some great tutorials on YouTube.  I wanted to cake to sit higher than what the basic directions called for so I sat the base on my own glass cake stand and I put a Wilton Cake Tier in the second layer of diapers and sat the Monkey and last tier of diapers on that.  It came out perfect. I also made a second single layer cake with the remaining diapers, covered it with the other blanket that came in the package and put a smaller monkey on top.  The big monkey mouth is in the shape of an "0" so it looked like he was drinking from the bottle.  It was so adorable.  I will come back later and link to some of the YouTube vidoes that would be helpful if you wanted to make a diaper cake.

Here's the matching card.  I now prefer using googly eyes or rubber stamps for faces.  Sometimes it's a lot easier than trying to make those tiny, tiny cuts fit and for me, I still can't get those tiny cuts to cut neatly.
This is another card I found on YouTube by Yoliebean.  The card size and cut is fabulous.  It actually opens twice - the first time the blue sky opens to reveal a vellum baby quote and then the green grass sections opens to reveal a regular card.  I left this part blank since there were a lot of people that needed to sign the card. You really gotta watch her video to get the full effect.

Hope's It's a Real Hoot

Here's a card I made for Grandma.  I had just gotten the Create a Critter cartridge and I had been dying to use it but didn't have enough time.  Hmmm, does that happen to anyone else -- I'm looking at the cartridge, the cartridge is looking at me.  And then along came Grandma's birthday.  I've seen so many cute owl cards on different blogs and I had been dying to do one of my own.  Here it is.  The background paper is DCWV Flower Shower and the green glitter cardstock is from Target.  They have tons of glitter paper in great colors.  I think I have all of them - but beware, the glitter get ALL OVER your mat so I use an old mat with masking tape to hold the paper down when I cut with glitter paper.  I don't alway like stamping directly on the front of the card so this time I stamped on coordinating paper, cut it apart and there you have it.

You Rock Card

Ok, so really.  What's a new blog without a You Rock card.  They are all the rage these days.  Especially with all of the cartridges that have images to go along with this theme.  I cut this from the Stamping Cartridge too.  I edged the tuner keys with a little silver metalic ink.  The inside of the card uses the back side of the paper for the sentiment along with another strip of the front side to give the holes some pop when the card is closed.  I used an EK Success punch for the border, but I don't know the name of it.  It looks like swiss cheese.  A couple of Making Memories buttons, an embossed stamp and voila.  You Rock.  I also cut the word 'jamming' from the Paisley cartridge in the same bright orange gliiter paper as the guitar - so the inside sentiment reads "Hope your day is jamming".

Love those Dolphins

This card is for a young man who loves football and the MIAMI DOLPHINS.  Woo hoo.  It's a pretty simple card - and not one piece of bling.  How did that happen????  The football is from the Sports Mania cardtridge.  Those corner elements are great.  The sentiment is computer generated.  It's supposed to be the Miami Dolphins font.  What do you think?  I used the CB Stars folder for the background.  I love that folder and use it all the time.  It's great for sports themed cards.

I used another corner element on the inside of the card as a gift certificate holder.

Hope it's da bomb

This card was inspired by a card I saw on this blog and I thought it was da' bomb.  LOL.  It made me realize that I need to look at my cartridges in a different way.  This cut is from the Indie Art cartridge which has a lot of fun images that can be used together.  I also put the bomb on an Action Wobble which made it shake like it was just about to go off.  The red flame around the fire and on the tip of the match is a bright red holographic paper which gave the card a little pop.  I think I should have used a second color around the "burst" on the bomb.  I know I'll be making this card again.  It was a lot of fun.  I'll try it then.  TFL!!!  Have a blessed day.

The Journey Continues

This is a card I copied straight from a Cricut idea book.  When I first got my Cricut I was so intimidated.  I would cut things out sparingly because I was afraid I would break it or mess it up.  The first paper I ever cut was construction paper because I didn't own any cardstock when I bought the Cricut.  Well, that wasn't a good idea.  The fuzzy stuff on the paper stuck to my mat and made a mess.  You live and you learn.

The inside is computer generated.

These are birthday cards I've made for different friends and family.  As you can see, I love busy, interactive cards.

It's amazing how long it can take to make a card when you first start.  At least it would take me forever.  Every choice and placement seemed like a major decision. I stayed up until the wee hours working on this one.  I still wouldn't say that I can "whip" out a card or two in no time, but I've come a long way baby!!

I saw this card in a book. I don't even think it was a card.  I think it was some type of scrapbook layout or mini-album.  I thought that it would make a really cool card.  It opens like a book and has a magnet holding it closed.  On the left is a pocket for a gift certificate.

This card was made for a doctor who liked to travel.  The clipboard pulls out and my friend was able to write a little "prescription" for a happy birthday.

The Journey Begins

These are a few of the cards that started me on this journey.  I will post others as I come across them.  I didn't start taking pictures until a few of my friends insisted.  Now I really wish I had a pic of the very first card.

I love shiny, sparkly paper and stuff.  You can't really see it on this card (I'm going to have to work on my photo skills) but the teal paper is an American Crafts foil which is really pretty.  The "50" is cut from the Winter Wonderland cartridge which has a very nice font.

This is one of my favorite cards.  Most of my cards have some type of bling or shine, but again, you can't see it.  Waaaah.

This card is pretty much made by hand.  I used the Accent Essentials cartridge for the tires because I wanted them to look like real monster truck tires. The gifts in the back of the truck were stamped, embossed and colored.  The balloon too.  I cut off the stamped string and added floss, then tied it to the pipe on the truck.

Inaugural Post

So, here is my first post of a card I made for my mother's birthday.  The card base is acetate, although I don't think it's too clear in the picture.  There is a little row of Prima ribbon at the bottom that has pom-pom balls hanging off of it.  I fell in love wth that ribbon when I saw it.
